It's important to know who your target audience in. Media companies spend a lot of money to identify there target. Forbid is not done properly it will not be successful. To do this they profile the audience by looking at different demographic factors that come together to create a picture of the products target audience.

  1. Socio-economic- Social and economic situation (spending power)
  2. Age and Gender
  3. Ethnic groups
  4. Psychographics
  5. Personality traits and interests
  6. Geodemographics- Local geographic agricultural impact.
  7. Sexual orientation
  8. Mainstream
  9. Niche (small and specialist)

Pyschographic profile of audiences 

Mainstreamers:

  • The largest group of people. They follow the latest trends and fit in with today's society. They seek security.

Aspirers:

  • Materialistic and geared towards their image and appearance. Typically younger audience. They seek status.

Succeeders:

  • Usually have strong goals and a good work ethic. They can be quite  confident and have good organisation. They seek control.

Resigned:

  • Rigid in there ways and usually stick to one thing. Also may have authoritarian values. Often older people. They seek survival.

Explorers:

  • Energy, individualism and experience is important to them.and may have an influence on their decisions. They value difference. Typically younger people.

Strugglers:

  •  People who are disorganised or feel alienated. Tends to be a lower demograpic and has few resources beyond physical skills. They seek escape

Reformers:

  • Believes in freedom for growth and loss of restrictions. They have a social awareness and independent awareness. They seek individualism.
